2017 – MOZBIO

Around the Chimanimani National Reserve in Mozambique, communities had to look for livelihood alternatives that no longer involved poaching or encroaching on protected areas to open new farmland. Alternative practices developed by their ancestors already existed, but needed some innovation. The MozBio project revived them with subsistence farming initiatives, beekeeping with conventional beehives, and irrigation systems. The community's new granary holds promise for increasing the commercialization of all these products and ensuring the livelihood of the families, who are now able to make better use of activities they have done all their lives. The past has been transformed into a better future.
